A Design-Build Success Story: Granite State Indoor Range and Gun Shop
Jewett’s strength in the narrow field of design-build construction continues to produce quality results. See below for our latest design-build success and how we can help you with your next project.
Jewett Construction Co., Inc.’s recent project for the Granite State Indoor Range and Gun Shop (2 Hampshire Drive, Hudson, NH 03051) is the classic case of a solid use of the design-build approach — an inclusive, streamlined team endeavor that mandates early and ongoing collaboration between client, builder, architect, and key vendors.
When GSIR came to us with the opportunity to build a great project, one fast-tracked with a four month completion date, we knew we had to hit the ground running. Constant and proactive communication between all team members would be key. The client allowed us to choose the designer, Port One Architects, and our preferred vendors—Interstate Electrical Services, Armand E. Lemire Co., and Tri-State Sprinkler—before the budget was finalized or the facility’s location even chosen. Because of the specialized nature of the facility, the client also required his own key vendors — Georgia-based Meggitt Training Systems and Illinois-based Carey’s Small Arms Range Ventilation — both integral parts of the equation. Having the team fully assembled from the get-go allowed us to back into a budget with everyone at the table, zeroing into the client’s needs from the start. Another key to streamlining the project was the constant interaction between our vendors and those of the client—a close, day-to-day collaboration that allowed us to react instantly to their needs and fulfill their technical requirements.
The entire team worked collaboratively with the client on an almost daily basis to incorporate his design wish list and give him the best bang for his buck. In the end, not only did we meet the deadline, the project came in ahead of schedule and under budget. “Jewett did a great job with the range,” says Rich Nutile, General Manager of GSIR. “Their people are great to work with and really get things done.”
