JEWETT SAYS "NO" TO WASTE

(August, 2008)

Jewett Construction Co., Inc. is known throughout Northern New England as a green builder; that is, they provide environmentally friendly solutions to their clients in the commercial and industrial construction industries. However, they've been doing more to preserve the environment than simply providing green building services to their clients.

Jewett Construction has measures in place to conserve energy and reduce waste, both in the office and in the field. Office machines are turned off or left in energy-saving mode when not in use and motion-detecting light switches ensure that lights do not remain on in an empty office. Perhaps the most impressive efforts are Jewett's "paperless office" and recycling policies. Their staff and subcontractors participate in the recycling program, which ensures that no recyclable items, including construction materials, end up going to waste. A recent report submitted to the U.S. Green Building Council, as part of their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, boasts a recycling rate of 93% of materials at an ongoing project. This translates to 50.91 tons out of 54.11 tons of construction materials that have been recycled to date – at one jobsite!

In order to truly do their part to preserve the environment, Jewett aims at getting the word out and helping others make green choices. Simply stated, Jewett adheres to the 4-R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repeat. A noble effort, indeed, and one that will surely not go to waste.
