10 Questions With a Superintendent

We caught up with Jewett Superintendent Rick Bishop to get to know more about him and the projects he loves!

Woburn, MA

2. What time do you wake up in the morning?

4:30 every day – I’ve gotten up at 4:30 am every day since I was 17.

3. What does a typical week look like for you?

There is never a typical week in construction. Every single day is different. Safety is first when I arrive at the site. I run through all the safety checks on the machines, remind everyone on site that they’re human and to stay safe. From there I jump immediately into keeping everything organized and keeping everyone moving on time and on schedule for the day.

4. Before working at Jewett, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I’ve done a lot of interesting things – but installing the dewatering wells at Sconset beach in Nantucket, Massachusetts sticks out as one of the more interesting and complicated jobs I’ve worked on. With all of the soil and erosion control for Nantucket, there were so many moving parts. We had to be hyper-aware of the ocean tides with the dredging we were doing. It was always keeping me on my toes.

5.+ 6. What has been your favorite project at Jewett and/or What’s been one of your proudest moments working with Jewett?

Prime Subaru was a shining star of a project for me. It was a big site with high visibility – essentially all of Vermont complimented the job! No one in Vermont had ever seen a building go up that fast before. It was a great job, a great client, and a great final product.

 7. What do you like do to do when you’re not on-site?

When I’m not on site I prioritize spending time with my family. Playing with my grandkids is my favorite thing to do now.

8. Favorite place you’ve traveled too?

Short Sands Beach in York, Maine – It’s close to home and it’s full of good family memories.

9. If you could switch your job with anyone else within Jewett, whose job would you want?

I don’t want to switch! I love being a superintendent.

10. What is the one thing, you can’t live without?

My wife. Family is everything to me. We’ve been a team for a long time – I wouldn’t be able to do the great work I do without her support. She has made it all possible.
