Why Should Young People Consider a Career in Construction?

(Fremont, NH) If you are a young person, regardless of whether your diploma is from a college/university or a high school, there is one thing you are seeking, and that is the opportunity to make enough money that will afford you financial independence. Young people want to make enough money not to afford just the necessities, but some luxuries in life as well. There is one industry that pays well enough to afford them the ability to do so, and that is the construction industry. Not only does the construction industry offer great compensation for young people right out of school, but it offers perhaps something many other industries don’t - opportunity. The opportunities for young people within the industry are endless, and if you are willing to work hard you can move up the ladder relatively quickly. So to summarize, why should you consider the construction industry? High wages, high demand, and endless opportunities; exactly what young people are looking for.

The job opportunities are everywhere. The construction industry is one of the few sectors where the demand for new workers has risen. Unfilled jobs in the construction sector reached an all-time high last year. Construction needs and jobs are growing steadily, and if you are looking to enter a new industry with untapped potential, construction could be your answer. If you did receive a four-year degree and you want to find something within the focus of your studies the industry offers opportunities there as well. Career paths can take so many different directions, from working in the field to project management to business development and so much more. You can use some of the most advanced technologies in the world. If you think construction is all blueprints, hammers and nails, you are mistaken! The manual construction tools and processes of yesterday are very different from the highly-technical applications and devices that are found on our job sites today. The construction industry is not just moving dirt, this is a $2 trillion a year industry!

There are some common misconceptions surrounding the construction industry and it’s true that often people who do not understand the industry tend to judge construction professionals harshly. However, you can’t just walk onto a construction site and pick up some tools, contrary to popular belief. Many of these professionals have university degrees, did apprenticeships, went to trade schools, have multiple certifications and hours upon hours of training under their belts.  These folks are some of the most highly skilled and sophisticated people in the country. If you would like to build some complex projects and seize the opportunity to make a future for yourself, the construction industry is right here waiting.

There’s an old saying: when opportunity knocks, answer the door; well, we build the doors.
