We’ve partnered with the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) to share details through school guidance and athletics departments. The scholarship will also be promoted during NHIAA championship games throughout the school year.

Justin Howell’s interest in skilled trades began early. Growing up with a father who worked in the trades, Justin had opportunities to work alongside him during summers and school breaks, developing an appreciation for hard work. As a three-sport athlete throughout high school, he also learned the importance of being coachable, listening, and anticipating what comes next — skills that are already proving valuable in his HVAC career.
When the opportunity to explore the trades through classes at Pinkerton Academy arose, Justin took full advantage. He was drawn to HVAC for its combination of electrical, plumbing, and gas systems, and quickly realized it was the right fit for him.
Today, Justin is building his foundation in the trades through gas education while gaining hands-on experience in the field. He is on track to earn three gas licenses by March 2027, after which he plans to enroll in Granite State Trade School’s two-year HVAC program. He hopes to earn his EPA Section 608 Universal Certification as he continues developing his skills. Through his work, Justin has already participated in several furnace replacements, learning the importance of preparation, problem-solving, and anticipating his foreman’s needs on the job.
The Jewett Trades Scholarship has played an important role in helping Justin get started. By covering the cost of the tools he needs, the scholarship has allowed him to arrive on the job site prepared and ready to contribute. For Justin, having the right tools on hand is about more than convenience — it’s about being proactive, anticipating his foreman’s needs, and continuing to learn. He describes receiving the scholarship as a blessing and encourages other aspiring tradespeople to apply.
Looking ahead, Justin hopes to earn his licenses, gain as much experience as possible, and eventually own his own HVAC company. He is also paying close attention to the business side of the trade, learning from his foreman about ordering supplies, managing costs, and keeping jobs running efficiently. Down the road, he hopes to pursue additional business education and even teach evening courses at Granite State Trade School, helping the next generation of tradespeople build their skills.
When asked what advice he would give those considering a career in skilled trades, Justin emphasized the importance of showing up on time, being prepared, and giving every task your full effort. He believes success comes from being coachable, anticipating what needs to happen next, and making the most of every learning opportunity. His philosophy is simple: even on a bad day, there is always an opportunity to turn things around by maintaining a positive attitude, asking questions, and continuing to learn.

When Peyton graduated from Merrimack High School, he had a clear goal: build a career in welding. With support from our Trades Scholarship, he enrolled in welding school and quickly got to work mastering both the fundamentals and the craft.
Over the past year, Peyton combined classroom learning with hands-on training in a focused, small-group environment. His dedication paid off in a big way. He earned an impressive 54 welding certifications, including the highly challenging 6G 6-inch pipe restricted test. He credits that experience with teaching him patience and confidence under pressure.
The scholarship played a critical role in his success. By easing the financial burden, Peyton was able to fully commit to his training, show up every day, and put in the hours needed to improve his technique and trust his abilities.
That commitment has already opened doors. Peyton was recently offered a position with a local ironworkers union. He plans to begin work later this year after completing final onboarding steps and certifications.
When asked what advice he would give future applicants, Peyton keeps it simple: apply, stay patient, and trust the process.
