In Honor of Women in Construction Week, Jewett Highlights Why the Industry Is a Smart, Rewarding Path for Women

March 12th, 2021 | Fremont, NH

The first week of March marks Women in Construction (WIC) Week, a national celebration supported by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). WIC Week raises awareness about the growing opportunities for women in the construction industry and honors the valuable contributions women are making on job sites and in boardrooms across the country.

To celebrate this important week, Jewett Construction is sharing five compelling reasons why girls and women should consider building a career in construction:

1. The Gender Pay Gap Is Smaller in Construction

According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women in construction earn an average of 99.1% of what men earn — a much smaller gap than the national average of 81.1%. This makes construction one of the most equitable industries when it comes to pay.

2. There Are Endless Job Opportunities

The construction industry is experiencing a worker shortage, with unfilled jobs reaching record highs. Whether you’re interested in hands-on work in the field, project management, estimating, marketing, or business development, the industry offers diverse and rewarding career paths for women of all backgrounds and interests.

3. Women Are Natural Problem Solvers

If you enjoy solving challenges and thinking on your feet, construction offers a dynamic and collaborative environment. Whether working with engineers, tradespeople, or clients, your ability to communicate and find solutions will be a major asset on any project team.

4. Your Work Has a Tangible Impact

Few careers offer the satisfaction of driving past a building or walking through a facility and being able to say, “I helped build that.” A career in construction means leaving a lasting mark on your community and helping shape the built environment for generations to come.

5. Construction Uses Advanced Technology

Modern construction sites are powered by cutting-edge tools and digital platforms. From drones and 3D scanning to project modeling software and mobile apps, construction professionals today use some of the most advanced technologies in the world to work smarter and safer.

At Jewett Construction, we believe the future of our industry depends on building inclusive teams that empower every voice. We’re proud to support the women of Jewett and encourage more women and girls to explore the endless possibilities in construction.
