Jewett Construction builds on 50 years of success

From a Pickup Truck to a $100M Firm, the Jewett Legacy Continues with a New Chapter in Leadership

FREMONT, N.H. – When Ed Jewett founded a home building business in 1972 with support from his wife, Arlene, he couldn’t have imagined it would evolve into a $100 million company with 65+ employees working across New England and beyond.

“I had a pickup truck and my first desk was a dashboard,” Ed recalls. “It was a struggle... but little by little we inched forward.”

Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, Jewett Construction stands as a leading family-owned construction management firm specializing in commercial projects across the office, retail, automotive, and manufacturing sectors.

A Family Legacy of Leadership

Ed’s son, Craig Jewett, took ownership in 2004 after working his way up from laborer. “I had to pay my parents for this company,” Craig said. “Nothing was handed to me, and I think that helps you get out of bed in the morning.”

Now, Craig passes the leadership torch to Greg Stewart, a former senior VP and senior estimator who becomes the first non-family member to serve as president. “I see it as my responsibility to our team and to honor the company’s investment in me,” said Stewart.

Growth Through Strategic Vision

Under Craig’s leadership, Jewett focused on automotive dealership construction, helping to propel the company’s growth. Notable projects like Tyco’s corporate hangar and the National Passport Center helped put Jewett on the commercial construction map.

“As the company grew, I had to adapt,” said Craig. “One reason we’ve been successful is because we invest in our team and promote from within.”

Resilience During the Pandemic

Jewett faced COVID-19 not with cutbacks, but by doubling down. “A lot of people looked at it as the end,” Craig said. “We saw it as a beginning.” The company hired a human resources director, brought on new talent, and grew while others downsized.

One highlight: the purchase and transformation of a commercial building at 25 Spaulding Road in Fremont—a site with personal meaning. Ed Jewett once co-owned the historic Spaulding & Frost Cooperage, which formerly stood on the site.

Building a Bigger Family

Jewett remains deeply rooted in its family-oriented culture. Craig’s son, Nick, now an estimator, grew up around the company. Long-time employees like TC Holt and Rob Bernier attest to the supportive environment.

“It’s not one-size-fits-all,” Craig said. “We adapt to our clients’ needs—and we support our team in the same way.”

Looking Ahead: Growth with Purpose

Greg Stewart emphasized that future expansion will follow client needs, not geography. “We’re going where our clients need us,” he explained. “Growth will be driven by relationships and performance.”

As Jewett Construction steps into its next chapter, it does so with confidence, a commitment to excellence, and an eye on empowering both clients and employees for continued success.
