How Athletics Shape Health, Character, Community—and Future Careers

FREMONT, NH – A significant percentage of the Jewett Construction team grew up playing sports—soccer, hockey, football, cross-country, you name it. That’s why we’re proud to support high school athletes playing this weekend in the CHaD East vs. West High School All-Star Football Game.

Youth sports offer countless benefits that reach far beyond the scoreboard. From physical health and mental resilience to confidence and career readiness, the skills young athletes develop today echo into their future.

More Than a Game: Life Lessons Through Sport

Team sports are a powerful reflection of real life. They introduce young people to competition, collaboration, adversity, and triumph. Athletes learn how to trust teammates, respect opponents, take feedback from coaches, and work through setbacks with resilience.

In the heat of the game, young athletes discover how to cope with disappointment, bounce back from defeat, and celebrate the thrill of success—important life lessons that carry forward into adulthood.

Academic Success and Goal Setting

Sports not only help students thrive physically but also academically. Numerous studies have shown that student-athletes are more likely to earn higher grades and set ambitious goals. Many report aspirations to complete both undergraduate and graduate degrees—fueled by the discipline and focus they develop on the field.

Building Lifelong Friendships and Community Ties

Youth sports are also an incredible social outlet. They offer opportunities to make friends, build camaraderie, and feel connected to school and community. Friendships formed during a season can last a lifetime.

Participation also exposes youth to community role models—volunteer coaches, league officials, and families who give back. These relationships foster a sense of belonging and civic responsibility.

Supporting the CHaD East vs. West Game

The CHaD East vs. West High School Football All-Star Game is a powerful example of the intersection of athletics and philanthropy. Taking place this Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. at St. Anselm College, the 10th annual showdown will feature more than 80 of New Hampshire’s top high school players.

This isn’t just another game—it’s a celebration of community spirit and generosity. All proceeds benefit CHaD programs that support children and families undergoing treatment, and players fundraise to contribute to this mission themselves.
